Pass through the landscapes of the gold-rich Highveld to the dry expanses of the great Karoo, the spectacular mountain ranges, and the picturesque wine regions of the Cape to the mother city of South Africa, Cape Town, which lies in the cradle of the imposing Table Mountain, Devil's Peak, and Lion's Head. Highlights of the northern and southern routes include a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein. This authentic, perfectly preserved Victorian village – founded by Mr. Logan in 1890 as a stopover – also boasts an impressive museum on the platform. A stop in Kimberley also provides the opportunity for a city tour, a visit to the Mine Museum, and the world's largest man-made excavation, the 'Big Hole'. Day 1: Capital Park - Kimberley
The departure of the luxury train is from the private station in Capital Park on the Pride of Africa and heads south. Through Johannesburg, it travels through the goldfields of the Witwatersrand. This is one of the most significant and richest gold deposits in the world. Afternoon tea is served in the lounge or the observation car. Dinner is served in the dining car. Overnight on board the train.
Day 2: Kimberley - Big Hole - Mine and Diamond Museum
The luxury travel train arrives today in Kimberley, South Africa. It is the capital of the Northern Cape province and is known for diamond mining. Visit the Big Hole (a monument to diamond mining, providing insight into the history of South African diamond mining) and the adjacent Mine and Diamond Museum. Departure towards Matjiesfontein via De Aar. Lunch is served in the dining car, tea in the lounge and observation car. Dinner is served in the dining car.
Day 3: Matjiesfontein
After breakfast in the dining car, there is a visit to the historic village of Matjiesfontein today. It is a small town in the Little Karoo (a semi-desert region) known for its Victorian-style architecture. Departure from Matjiesfontein towards Cape Town. Lunch is served in the dining car. Tea as always in the lounge and observation car. Arrival at Platform 24 at Cape Town station.
